America’s Founding and Limited Government
George W. Carey - 06/24/10

First Principles is redoubling its commitment to fostering a better understanding of the first principles of a free and humane society. For June and July we will be focusing on the first of these principles: limited government.

In this classic piece from the ISI archives, George W. Carey of Georgetown University explores the importance of limited government to the Founders, as well as more recent threats to limited government that our forebears could not have anticipated.

This insightful essay, “America’s Founding and Limited Government,” originally appeared in the Fall 2003/Spring 2004 issue of The Intercollegiate Review.
